The question marks is used as a replacement for a period in a interrogative sentence.

The symbol is generally thought to originate from the Latin quaestio, meaning "question," which was abbreviated to Qo. The uppercase Q was written above the lowercase o, and this mark was transformed into the current symbol.

Spanish questions are start with an inverted question mark and end with the standard.

The Rhetorical Question mark, it a backward question mark, with the opening of the mark facing away from the sentence.
